Biography

One of the most celebrated pianists of the 19th century and a significant composer in her own right, Clara Schumann premiered and championed the works of her husband Robert and of Brahms, who remained her closest friend for decades. Her Piano Concerto in A minor (Op. 7), composed at 14, is a remarkable achievement. Her Three Romances (Op. 22), Piano Sonata in G minor, and Piano Trio are her most substantial compositions. She virtually ceased composing after Robert's death, devoting herself to performance and teaching.
