Biography

The only woman member of Les Six — the group of French composers that also included Milhaud, Honegger, Poulenc, Auric, and Durey — Tailleferre composed in a clear, witty, neoclassical style that Satie compared to Couperin. Her Piano Concerto No. 1 (1924) and Pastorale for piano are among her most performed works. She outlived all her male colleagues by many years and continued composing into her eighties.
