Biography
A visionary French organist and mystic who served at Sainte-Clotilde in Paris (succeeding Franck's pupil Gabriel Pierné), Tournemire is best known for his monumental L'Orgue Mystique — 51 suites covering the entire liturgical year, each based on Gregorian chant propers. His improvisations, several of which were recorded and later transcribed by Duruflé, reveal a harmonic language of extraordinary originality bridging Franck and Messiaen.
