Biography

A student of d'Indy in Paris and a colleague of Falla, Turina developed a Spanish nationalist piano style rooted in Andalusian folk music and shaped by French impressionist technique. His Danzas fantasticas Op. 22, Sevilla Op. 2, Mujeres espanolas, and Jardines de Andalucia are characteristic works evoking the sights and sounds of southern Spain with considerable pianistic finesse. Together with Falla and Albéniz, he forms the triumvirate of 20th-century Spanish piano composers.
