double sixths

English instrument

Definition

Parallel sixths played in one or both hands — a common virtuosic texture in Romantic piano writing.

Interpretive Guidance

Slightly more natural than double thirds because the finger positions are more comfortable, but still demanding at speed. Found prominently in Chopin, Liszt, and Brahms.
