Definition
A technique in which one hand crosses over (or under) the other to reach notes outside its normal range.
Interpretive Guidance
Common in Baroque keyboard writing (Scarlatti, Bach) and Romantic virtuosic pieces. Requires physical coordination and spatial awareness at the keyboard.
