  The early piano of the late 18th century, with a lighter action, shallower key depth, thinner tone, and faster decay than the modern instrument. J.C. Bach was among the first to introduce and champion it in public concert performance in London.
  On modern piano, respect the transparency and clarity the fortepiano implies. Avoid heavy pedalling and thick voicing. Ornaments should be crisp. Let the natural decay of the instrument shape your phrasing rather than sustaining everything artificially.
