Biography
The founder of the French harpsichord school, Chambonnières served as claveciniste du roi and was the most celebrated keyboard player in France during the mid-17th century. His two published books of Pièces de clavecin (1670) contain elegant suites of dances — allemandes, courantes, sarabandes, and gigues — that established the model for all subsequent French clavecinistes. He was the teacher of both d'Anglebert and the Couperin family.
